"Da' Hip-Hop Wizzard of Oz" is a modernized version of "The Wizard of Oz." This is a fun family event which incorporates the hip-hop culture with the appreciation of the other Performing Arts disciplines.
Dorothy is your average teenager who enjoys school and dreams of making it big as a "STAR." Her dreams, however, are not supported by everyone around her. Will she give up on her dreams? Before she can answer that question, Dorothy is mysteriously taken to a Hip-Hop influenced Land of Oz.
There, Dorothy accidentally kills the Wicked Witch of the Eastside and is granted the dead witch's enchanted Ruby Converse. Dorothy then meets some new friends (the Scarecrow, the Tinman, and the Lion) and together they travel down the yellow brick road, through the Land of Oz to the Emerald City of Dance in hopes of gaining the things they lack from the Great Wizzard of Oz. But he will only grant their wishes if Dorothy kills the Wicked Witch of the Westside. What will Dorothy decide to do?
This is an original play, written by LaQuette Milner, and has been performed in front of a live audience in February 2008 and May 2008 in Bakersfield, CA. It was a hit! Now, we'll be bringing this production to the El Portal Theatre in North Hollywood in November 2010.
